Social Networking On The Net – A Definite Reality

Social networking is fast changing the social norms of the society. Till now you were making friends through your friends or your relatives or during study or in your work place or around your home. But now you have another medium to make friends, the social networking sites. For the first time user it may sound a bit strange to talk to someone you cannot see but this is the way friendship is being offered on social networking sites like MySpace or Friendster.

Just Be Yourself, You Will Love It
There are many reasons why the social networking site MySpace has become so popular, especially amongst the youngsters. All you have to do is develop your profile on the social networking site. You need very little knowledge of the internet to do that, often with a little trial and error or a little guidance you are successful. One benefit of social networking is that you do not have to search for friends. You have hundreds and thousands of members waiting to be your friends. Moreover, before making friends with someone you have the opportunity to learn about that person with whom you are making friendship, through his or her profile. This is never possible with traditional friends.

Another reason for joining social networking is that you usually do not have to pay anything to take a membership. MySpace membership is given free of cost. There are some sites which charge some fee to register new members; this is usually done to eliminate the members who choose to become a nuisance for others. Moreover, most of these paid sites like Classmates, offer a free time to prospective members to see if they wish to remain as members with the facilities and members on offer. You can choose to relinquish your membership if you are dissatisfied.

There are many other things that you can do on the social networking site besides making friends. You can join groups of interest where you can engage in hobbies and pastimes of mutual interest and also exchange information on any subject. The area of interest could range from politics to religion to sports to music. You can also have free access to music, videos, blogs if you become a member of a particular networking site. This is also done to encourage new memberships by networking sites. By making new friends on social networking sites like MySpace you not only broaden the horizons of your knowledge but you also have access to information on various subjects if you have a discerning eye. You can use the networking site to build business or service relationships which pay you handsomely at the end of every month. Therefore, seeking friendship over social networking sites is a good proposition for any adult who wants to make steady friends as well as develop business relationships.

Why use Blogging as a Marketing Tool?

Professor Moolha knows that independent Professionals have to spend most of their time not with clients but in marketing. Except for the few lucky ones, Professionals are constantly battling to develop new clients and build a bigger business.

Time is the important issue here. Most people who want to become independent and become professionals do so because they don’t like something in their current organization. The overwhelming dislike is the fact that they have to spend so much time for someone else. It may be time in working, it may be in efficiency, it may be the fact that they don’t like to show up to work and be there during a normal work week (9-5 on the time card but we all know that it is more like 8-7 most days).

So how do we become independent workers and make enough money to make us happy? Develop a blog and utilize the new social internet (Web 2.0).

What will your blog get you?

  1. Reach More People – As you build your blog you will build readership. Utilizing this readership you will be able to reach more people at one time. It is like meeting someone face to face and telling them about your business in a story format. By doing this with a blog you will be telling many people about your business at the same time, but it will feel as if you are talking to one person at a time.
  2. Targeted – People look for very specific things when they go on the internet. If you have what they want then they will find you. You will in turn get a very focused and targeted group of people reading your blog. Since you have good content they will want to come back time and time again to read your blog and see what you have to say. This will only focus their attention more. You will not be spending time trying to target and convince a group of people who really are not interested. If they stay with your blog you know they will be interested.
  3. Subtle – Everyone is bombarded with ads these days. No one likes the hard sell. We are simply a smarter Nation now. By using your blog to market your business, and if applicable, sell products, the sell is very subtle. Instead of saying “this is the best product you need to buy it or your life is ruined” you will be writing about he need for a product. Oh by the way we just happen to have it. Or maybe you have a satisfied client who will let you use their story (if you can get a picture it is very powerful). Don’t sell your services or product here. Let them sell it. Let them say what is great about you. It is the soft subtle sell. A great success story. Everyone wants to be successful.
  4. Less Time – You will be spending less time. A blog post will only take maybe an hour to map out, write, edit, and post. As you do this more your time spent will be less and less. You will not have to spend a whole bunch of time sitting down with a marketing consultant or an ad specialist to develop a strategy. You simply get an idea and write about it. That is it, that is all a blog is. It is an ongoing conversation with you as the leader and your audience as the listeners.
  5. Anytime – Blogs are great because you can post any time you want. We recommend if you have a big chunk of time write a few posts, you can set WordPress to spread them out over time using their post date stamp function (more about that will be on the way). You don’t just have to work from 9-5, but you can do it anytime. Write a post just before bed, or when you wake up. Have you ever woke up in the middle of the night and wanted to be productive? No one else is awake so what do you do? Write a blog post.
  6. Anywhere – I personally love to sit at the beach or in a coffee shop to write my posts. It gets me out of the house, I get a good cup of java, or a milkshake and let my surroundings inspire me to write. There are fewer distractions and I get done quicker. Plus the fresh air is great. I can even take my dog and we both get a benefit.
  7. Free – Everyone likes free. Blogs for the most part are free. As we get into some more advanced topics we can see how we can begin to charge for a “premium blog” but for now lets just get started. As long as the content is coming, and it is free, there will be people to read it. Free is good.

There are probably many more reasons to have a blog, these are just the ones that I have come up with and that I find the most compelling. It is a great way to spend your time marketing and developing your business.

What is Skype?

Skype is another step forward in communication technology that uses the computer and the Internet, to make phone calls. Founded by Niklas Zennström and Janus Friis, it is an online phone system that enables the user to make calls through thier computer to another computer having the same system, or to call any other landline, anywhere in the world. In the former case, when you make a call from one computer to another, via Skype, you need not pay any money, but if you make a call from your computer to a landline, you would have to pay nominal charges. It is a very useful tool for people, who make a large number of calls, or for those, who wish to contact their family or friends, staying in another country or city.

Starting Up
The first step in being hooked up to the Skype system is, to visit their website www.skype.com and download their free software. You would also need to provide your personal information and register your user name and password. In addition, you need speakers and a microphone for making Skype calls. There are some great headsets that you can find which work very well.

Calling a Skype Contact
If you wish to make a Skype to Skype call, all that you have to do is, open Skype and click the contact you wish to call. You would then have to click the big green button, which is located at the bottom of the Skype screen. This will enable you to start your conversation. These calls are free. You can create a contact list on your computer, so that it becomes easier for you to make the calls. You can then click the Add button to add any new contact.

Making Calls to a Landline
If you wish to call a landline from your Skype connection, you just need to click the “Call Phone” blue button on the top of the screen and enter the landline number on the dialing screen. You can start talking as soon as you press the big green button. As you have to pay for these calls, you should buy a Skype credit that will prove to be a cheaper option.

Making Video Calls
To make a video call, you need a Webcam, Speakers, and a Microphone. However, you will need to install Skype 2.0, in order to get started. Once, you install the webcam and speakers, the Skype will test speakers settings automatically.

Extra Features
You can install extra useful features in your Skype system such as, Voicemail for missed calls and Instant messaging program, like the Yahoo Messenger. The other salient features of Skype are, voice and video conferencing, file transfer, ability to use decentralized technology, to combat Network address translation (NAT), and firewall problems, use of strong and transparent encryption and its strong defenses against reverse engineering of protocol.

Skype is a simple to use system, for staying in touch with people all over the world. It is cheap and its popularity is growing every day.

Important Elements Of Time Management

There is a lot to be done in your life and it is only through proper time management that you can hope to achieve your objectives since the available time is limited. Similarly even in your day-to-day chores it is essential that the important elements of time management are understood and orchestrated in the right direction so that you can find success in your ventures. Although it is true that no one knows what will happen the next moment, there is no reason why you should not endeavor to make the most of the present. It is necessary to give due importance to the various elements of time management.
Planning

The basic element of any task, big or small, is planning and nothing can succeed unless the task is properly planned at the very outset. This is also applicable to time management. Planning is the visualization of the different elements of a task and arrangement of these elements according to their importance. Detailed planning will also include the anticipation of the possible problems and obstacles that might come up along the way and the contingency arrangements to deal with these problems. In the case of time management, it is essential that the various elements of the job to be done are properly listed and arranged in order of their importance and priority. It is also important to estimate the amount of time that each element might need to be completed. You would also need to eliminate unnecessary wastage of time.

Handling Emails At Work

If most of your work involves emails, you must be aware that unnecessary emails keep cropping up and if you start attending to all of them, your time management plans will burst at their seams. Moreover, your mailbox will get crammed with these superfluous mails and you will find it difficult to keep track of the essential ones that concern your contracts, customer accounts and other important issues. It has, therefore, essential that you should not divulge your email details to irrelevant agencies that ask for such information. If you do need to deal with any such agency, you should have a different email account for this purpose so that your work email account is kept solely for official work. Moreover, database accounts should be kept up-to-date and old files should be maintained elsewhere. When your email accounts have only relevant files pertaining to your business, you will find that there will be less wastage of time leading to better time management.

Maintaining Notes

An essential element of time management is to develop the habit of taking notes and maintaining the same for future use. When you take notes at every step, whether in the planning stage or when you are attending a meeting or when you are simply pondering over the events of the day, you are building up essential tips and databases for planning your next line of action. This is a great way of saving time and utilizing every moment towards gainful work.

Time management is not only about keeping yourself busy in your work but also about finding time for relaxation with your family.

What is FTP?

FTP or File Transfer Protocol is used to transfer data from one computer to another over the Internet, or through a network. So simple enough, right? But why do we need it?When you own a website you have control over what goes into the website, and what the site looks like including any custom graphics or pictures. This involves uploading information over the internet.

FTP simply lets you upload this information more easily. It is not good enough to have a program running over the web to make this connection. May hosting companies include a program that acts like an FTP program, but they are typically unsecure, slow, and not as easy to use. FTP is much better at uploading and manipulating your files.

Overall there is one giant upside to FTP – IT IS SECURE— most FTP programs have a very secure connection and since it is temporary it is very hard to track down and intercept your uploads.

There are a few examples of programs that you can use.

WS-FTP – This is a program created by a company called IP Switch (http://www.ipswitch.com/). It is a very simple program and very user friendly. It is the preferred program of Professor Moolah. I use it extensively. Here is what the website has to say about it:

  • Best-in-class secure file transfer: Protect files before, during & after file transfer
  • 256-bit AES transfer encryption over SSL and SSH protocols
  • OpenPGP file encryption
  • File Integrity Checking up to SHA512
  • Industry leading automation and productivity features: Enhance productivity & save time
  • Schedule
  • Backup
  • Synchronization
  • Email Notifications
  • .Zip Compression
  • Scripting

And many more great features for computer file transfer:

  • Workspaces
  • Linked Folders
  • Search
  • Server-to-Server transfers
  • citrix admin, etc
  • Microsoft Vista compatible

For most of you non technical people this may not mean a whole lot, but that is ok. Maybe it would be better to see a screen shot of what it looks like:
WS FTP ScreenShot

As you can see it looks a lot like the file manager in windows. Much of the menus are the same, and it is very intuitive to use.

FREE ALERT!

FileZilla – Sounds mean but it really isn’t. FileZilla is a very good very efficient FREE FTP program. It is fairly new (and the people who developed it and use it would probably argue here), but it seems to be very stable and easy to use. Professor Moolah just began using this program and it is great. Here is what the website has to say about it

  • Easy to use
  • Supports FTP, FTP over SSL/TLS (FTPS) and SSH File Transfer Protocol (SFTP)
  • Cross-platform. Runs on Windows, Linux, *BSD, OSX and more
  • Available in many languages
  • Supports resume and transfer of large files >4GB
  • Powerful Site Manager and transfer queue
  • Drag & drop support
  • Configurable Speed limits
  • Filename filters
  • Network configuration wizard

So far it all seems to be true. Here is what it looks like:

For a whole bunch more screen shots you can go to the site and see them here.

The bottom line? FTP is needed if you decide that you are going to have a lot of involvement in developing your site. You need to have a safe secure and easy way to upload your files. Particularly if you are going to add any widgets or custom themes to your WordPress site.

You need to know your site username, your password, your ftp location (typically ftp.yourwebsite.com), and on occasion your port # (the default will typically work), and that is about it. After that both of these programs are easy to use easy to setup and very useful in manipulating your online files.

Using Social Networking Sites

Social networking sites can become great mediums for developing your online business. If you have an online business where you are trying to get customers through online advertisements and promotions, you can greatly improve your presence in homes world wide by developing a personal touch through social networking sites. You will find that people trust you more when you come in personal touch with them. You are more easily able to impress upon them the good points of your product which they readily accept.

Enlarge Your Business Network As Well
You also have a chance to meet some of your suppliers and dealers and this enables you to garner a more fruitful and long term business relationship with them. There are many ways to get closer to your clients by means of social networking sites. You can join online forums which discuss on subjects related to your product; this will directly introduce you to the people interested in your product. You can create your blogs which promote your product or service. You can then contact the visitors to your blog or the ones who respond and want more information on the product advertised through the blog.

The best part about creating business through social networking is that there is hardly any input as far as input costs are concerned. You can plan different strategies for different customers. You can sell your product or service at a much cheaper price than your competitors who have enormous inputs of labor and maintenance costs. It will become much easier for you to find a partner for your business through the social networking site. You can easily find like- minded persons who get interested to your idea and you can start a healthy partnership in business to cut costs and improve client base.

There are many things that you can do to create an online business with the help of social networking sites. You must try to get in touch with as many people as possible in networking dinners and forums. Try to learn which products find easy acceptance with most members. Try to exchange profiles and name cards with maximum members. Call members to find if anyone is interested in your product or service. Find products and services which still do not have an internet base or are new on the market scene. It is easier to secure such products as consignment and can be paid later when sold. Always try to keep the price low in the beginning till you have made a solid base of customers who vouch for your credibility. Moreover, it is easier to sell products at lower than market prices, especially if you can press home the utility of the product to members of social networking sites.

Ebook Nearly Available

Professor Moolah is proud to announce that in just a few short weeks the first release of Professor Moolah’s Guide to Marketing Your Business Through your Blog will be available.

To get on the list simply email Professor Moolah at professor@profmoolah.com. When the book is ready to ship, one will be sent to you.

The book is designed to help professionals who either do not yet have a blog that they are using regularly, or who do not have one at all.

Professor Moolah has produced this book with WordPress as the standard blogging tool. It is not that I believe that this is the best, and the only tool to use, I just had to chose one for reasons of simplicity.

Professor Moolah hopes that this book can be useful to the professional who has previously thought that getting on the Internet is a difficult task. It is not. With just a little guidance anyone who can write in word, can write a blog. Anyone with just a little knowledge of how the Internet works will be able to create their own blog with their own web address.

Yes Professor Moolah is a very technical person (or group of people to be accurate check the about me page for more information) and I know that there will be a lot of questions and things that are not clear. That is the reason for the limited release.

The books will not last long; they will only be available for free for a very short time.

Useful Time Management Strategies

In your busy everyday schedule of work, you must have felt the need for adopting better time management strategies whenever you were not able to accomplish all that you wanted to do due to lack of time. The time management strategies that are listed below will enable you to organize yourself better so that your output is comprehensive and fruitful. Given below are a few important strategies that will enable you to manage your time more effectively.

Plan Your Activities

The first step towards any successful venture or even an ordinary day, is to make a proper plan at the outset. This is true for every sphere of life, be it a picnic or a mission in space. Nothing can succeed without proper planning. Time management also requires a strategy whereby you can make a plan that includes making a list of the various jobs that need to be done and to prioritize them according to their importance. You should also make sure that you have allocated enough time for relaxation and for spending with your family.

Break Your Jobs Into Smaller Elements

An effective time management strategy necessitates breaking up your tasks into smaller steps so that you can manage them more easily and complete the steps on time. You will also feel more confident that you are well on your way to completing a successful day. When you are doing an important task, you should not get distracted by attending to telephone calls or emails unless you are anticipating some important messages. You can set apart a specific time for making telephone calls or attending to emails, if you feel that it is essential to do so. Unimportant communication should be tackled after you have achieved your immediate targets.

Determine When You Can Work With The Greatest Thrust

You should schedule the most important or difficult tasks according to the time when your mind is completely fresh. Your energy will be at its maximum level at such times and you will be able to tackle complex situations effectively and with ease. Moreover, an important time management strategy would be to use your downtime for the simple tasks.

Training Schedules

In order to achieve success in business, you need an efficient and dedicated team that will work in close cooperation with you as per your plans and directives. You can take advantage of training organizations and outsource this work of training your team to them. An important strategy of time management is to find a competent training organization and utilize your time to tackle other important issues.

Time management is of utmost importance in every aspect of life. “Time is money” is an oft-quoted saying which is very true, and using the above strategies will make you adept in time management.
